Psychiatry

Psychiatry is the science of mental health, including preventative medicine and prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of mental illness. A psychiatrist diagnoses and treats patients through psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, first making the psychiatric diagnosis and psychological profile through counseling the patient. Disorders encountered include depression, substance abuse and addiction, sexual identity disorders, schizophrenia, psychosis, mood disorders, identity disorders, and adjustment disorders; in addition, it’s a good idea to visit a psychiatrist if you are going through a rough life transition or are in a period of self-doubt, and need someone to talk to who can guide you through. Psychiatrists are qualified to order diagnostic laboratory tests and to prescribe medications. When needed, psychiatrists will intervene with families or workplaces to eliminate sources of stress, anxiety, depression and activators for drug addiction.

Naples

On the West Coast of Florida, a patch of sunny coastline calls itself “Naples” because its founders thought its beautiful waterfront would be known for “surpassing the bay in Naples, Italy”, and so they named the new area Naples. Known for pristine beaches, clear water and challenging golf courses, Naples also boasts all the amenities of modern life, including world-class shopping, dining and abundant night life. Consistently ranked in the top ten retirement destinations in North America, Naples offers the best of Florida and has a high concentration of psychiatrists — one per every 804 people. A city in Collier County, Florida, Naples has a population of just over 20,000 but belongs to the larger Naples–Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area which has a population of over 300,000. Personally, I love Naples Florida for the weather: sunny, warm, dry with a lovely salty breeze.

Florida

Florida is ranked 22nd in size amount the US states, but offers a mild climate that stretches from subtropical in the north to truly tropical in the southern tip, and with its 1200 miles of coastline has the most coastline of any state in the US. Florida was the first part of the continental United States visited by European explorers, namely the Spanish who named it “the flowery land” (La Florida). It is ranked third in the United States by population of psychiatrists, with roughly one to every 2000 people there.
